in Moldova since March 26th

Left very early from Schiphol Airport, after a very nice evening and night with Maurits (my older brother)  and Cobie in Vogelenzang, to Vienna, 1,5 hours, and from there to Chisinau (pronounce Kichinow), the capital of Moldova in another 2 hours. Robert was already there for his work on a Millenium Challenge Corporation project (rehabilitation of irrigation schemes), and he was waiting for me at a very nice, small but neat international airport. The first impressions were: cold, very cold for the season, no flowers nor green on the trees yet, a greyish city, wet, deteriorated, many communist highrises and some old glory Vienna-style government buildings.

Interesting enough, there are many trees and parks; on the first sunny day people young and old hang around. It's very stylish here to wear high heels, even when you walk with your toddler or go shopping. Old man play checkers outside at 4+ degrees Celsius, and there is art for sale, not particularly my style, but some traditional embroidery and handknitted socks!
